Hebrews 11:19 says; Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead. The context of this passage is when God told Abraham to go up to Mount Moriah and sacrifice his one and only son of promise Isaac. Abraham did have another son named Ishmael that he conceived with his wife’s servant Hagar when they doubted that God could provide a son through Sarah. Why did God tell Abraham to sacrifice his son of promise? Did God want Isaac to be sacrificed like the pagan religious sacrifices? Absolutely not! God wanted Abraham to follow Him at His word in obedient faith. Our text for today shares that Abraham was going to follow the Lord and even believed that God would resurrect Isaac if he was sacrificed. Praise the Lord Isaac was not sacrificed on Mount Moriah as God provided a ram in the thicket as a sacrifice that pointed to Jesus who would one day die on the Cross on that same mountain for our sins! Are you willing to follow the Lord in obedient faith even if it does not make sense? God is interested in the process and our growth, but we worry too much about the goal. Trust in God today, this very minute, and He will take care of the near and distant future.
