The apostle Paul shares in 2 Timothy 1: 5-6; I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. Paul called his spiritual son Timothy to fan the flames that were kindled when he was a child by his mother and grandmother. We know that Timothy grew up in a divided home with his father being a Greek and his mother being a Jewish convert to Christianity. These trials strengthened Timothy’s resolve for God and made him a perfect fit to work with Paul in reaching the Gentiles in the Roman world. How do we fan the flames of faith today to our children? Are you raising up spiritual champions for God’s kingdom even in less than ideal situations? God is calling us to start the fire in the hearts of our children for Jesus. These small flames can be fanned and grow with the eternal air through prayer and Bible study. Teach your children how to pray and learn from the Bible. Model it in your own spiritual growth. Allow your children to see you praying and studying the Bible personally. Involve your children in mission outreach to experience the gospel in action. I believe time is short and God wants us to raise up champions for truth in these last days.
