Psalm 123:2 says; Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters…, so our eyes look to the Lord our God. Oswald Chambers comments on this passage by saying; “Our spiritual strength begins to be drained when we stop lifting our eyes to Him. Our stamina is sapped, not so much through external troubles surrounding us but through problems in our thinking.” The troubles might shift our focus from God, but our minds begin to wander from the Lord’s power, and we start to burn out spiritually. Many who are in church leadership burn out because their minds drift from a focus on the power source, Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit will fill us with all the energy and wisdom we need as we spend time with the Lord in His Word and are in a constant attitude of prayer. Too many pastors and lay leaders get drained because they are not allowing God to fill them with His eternal nutrients. Ministry is a drain, but it is a blessing when we allow God’s streams of living water to flow through us into the lives of others.
