Paul shares in 2 Thessalonians 3:11-12; “Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living.” It is important that we train our children to live productive lives on this earth. We must provide opportunities for them to earn money around the home so that they have the motivation to find jobs at an early age outside the home. Dave Ramsey, founder of Financial Peace University, says that our children should not receive allowances for nothing, but commissions based on completing certain special jobs around the house beyond regular chores. I agree with Ramsey and I believe that the Bible supports this as well. Training up our children to be productive citizens will give them an entering wedge to share the gospel as people see their honesty and solid work ethic. May God bless us as we journey to raise up champions of the gospel in this world filled with darkness.
