Ezekiel 21:19 says, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you are all worthless slag, I will bring you to my crucible in Jerusalem.” Ezekiel is pointing out all the sins that were happening in Judah and Jerusalem at the time they were placed into exile for 70 years. Sexual immorality was running rampant, injustice was everywhere, and the leaders of the people promoted it all. God called the people “worthless slag” and He was going to place them in the fire to draw out all these impurities. Isaiah says that our righteousness is as like filthy undergarments. The best we can do in our human nature is worthless slag. That’s why we all need the atoning blood of Jesus Christ. We are perfect in Christ and God wants to perfect Christ’s character in you today. How does this happen? The fiery trials of life that lead us to a greater life of surrender to the Lord. The three Hebrews were thrown into a literal fiery furnace on the plain of Dura. Jesus showed up in the flames bringing King Nebuchadnezzar under conviction and eventual surrender to the God of heaven. Are you willing to allow God to send you through the fire for His glory and the salvation of others in your sphere of influence?
