Paul shares these words to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:3; Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Well, that sounds like fun! Why would Paul call his student Timothy to endure suffering with him? Paul was in chains in Rome and Nero was soon to behead the apostle to the Gentiles. Why must good soldiers of Christ endure suffering? We live in a world of sin and that the prince of this world, Satan, loves nothing more than to create trouble for us. God allows Satan to tempt and even bring us suffering but never more than we can bear in our humanity. We must trust in the Lord during these difficult times and He will turn our sorrow into joy. These trials will increase as we grow in the Lord and as time on this earth ends. The book of Revelation is clear that God’s remnant people will suffering before the second coming of Jesus. We must prepare today by leaning on God’s everlasting arms and suffering like good soldiers in obedient faith even when we feel like giving up. God will never leave or forsake us. Do you believe that today?
