And David said to Abigail, blessed be the Lord God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me: and blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood. 1 Samuel 25:32, 33. David was ready to slaughter Nabal and his entire family for disrespecting him, but Abigail, the righteous wife of Nabal, interceded and kept David from doing a harsh act outside of God’s will. Ellen White comments on this Bible story in the book Patriarchs and Prophets, A consecrated Christian life is ever shedding light and comfort and peace. It is purity, tact, simplicity, and usefulness. It is controlled by that unselfish love that sanctifies the influence. It is full of Christ and leaves a track of light wherever its possessor may go. Abigail’s intercession was not just for the survival of her family, but also for the integrity of David. Jesus shares in His sermon; Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. I believe peacemakers are called the children of God by those they intercede for in the world. God bless us as we go forward like Abigail as peacemakers for God’s kingdom today.
